SPY CAPITAL: VIENNA

The Spy Capital documentary supports and illustrates a popular claim that Vienna, the Austrian capital, has served as a true global hub for espionage for over hundred-fifty yeas. The screenplay covers the period from 1873 to 2024, starting with the anniversary of the World's Fair in Vienna 150 years ago and the formation of a new agency tasked with spying on Austria and Russia. It transitions to the (in)famous espionage case of Colonel Alfred Redl, who rose to become the head of the Evidenzbureau of the Austro-Hungarian Army's General Staff while simultaneously acting as a "mole" for the Russians.

When Redl was exposed, he committed Suizid in May 1913. The film concludes with the Russia-Ukraine war and explores the connections between the current case of Colonel Martin Möller and Putin's SVR.
